Guiding Light Remembers!

On Tuesday November 11, the staff and students gathered in an intimate and solemn ceremony for Remembrance Day. The school was informed on the background of Remembrance Day and the history of the poppy and how it came to be a symbol of remembrance. We gathered in prayer to pray for the souls of all those who lost their lives in war and for those who are still suffering the effects of war today. Together we experienced the 2 minutes of silence in honour of all these men and women who fought for our freedom in the past and for those who are currently trying to maintain peace in other parts of the world. We also brought our Canada flag to half-mast as a symbol of remembrance. The older grades were able to experience the Streetsville ceremony at the new cenotaph in the square. Students were able to see up close men and women of the armed forces and hear inspirational words from our mayor, Hazel McCallion. Guiding Light Academy was thrilled to participate in the community event and have our students experience the solemnity that is Remembrance Day.
